RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A driver crashed a car into the Verizon Wireless store at the North Hills Shopping Center on Thursday night, according to Raleigh police.
Police received the call to respond to 4421 Six Forks Road around 8:30 p.m.
Police have arrested the man they say drove his 2006 VW Jetta inside the Verizon Wireless store — believing that he is a disgruntled customer, officials said.
Police said the man, identified as 74-year-old Charles Michael Hager, of Raleigh, drove into the store when it was closed but when employees were still inside. Hager kicked in the door of the store before driving through it, according to a press release.
“He drove right through the damn front door. Through the front door. All the glass is shattered, it’s amazing…I’ve never seen such a thing like it,” said a man who called 911 after it happened.
The caller said Hager was upset about his phone.
“Well he stood outside. They were closed. They closed at 8 o’clock. He said ‘My damn phone don’t work and I need help opening this damn door!’ and I said, ‘No.’ I’m about to go see what’s going on with this, but he got in his car and drove right in the damn door,” the caller said.
Neither the man nor the six employees suffered any injuries.
Hager is charged with six counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of damage to property.
He was transported to the Wake County Detention Center and held under a $7,500 secured bond before he bonded out Friday morning. His first court appearance is set for Friday afternoon.
