NASHVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Two men have been arrested on several drug charges after deputies said they found 4 kilos of cocaine during a traffic stop in Nash County.
Jerime J. Cordero-Alvarez, 29, of Florida, and Edwin J. Rodriguez-Lopez, 25, of New York, were charged with trafficking cocaine by possession and transportation, possession of cocaine and maintaining a vehicle for the purposes of sell or deliver a controlled substance.
On Friday, the Nash County Sheriff’s Office Highway Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry for a traffic violation on I-95 southbound at the 148-mile marker.
Deputies said there was a suspicion of criminal activity.
A K-9 was deployed and gave positive for narcotics on the vehicle, deputies said.
A search was conducted and deputies said they found four kilos of cocaine, totaling 9lbs., and 9 ounces inside of a duffel bag in the trunk of the vehicle.
The driver was identified as Corder-Alvarez and the passenger as Rodriguez-Lopez.
Deputies concluded the traffic stop with their arrests.
The case is still under investigation.
