Congressman Tom Rice and others talked with President Donald Trump about I-73 during his visit to the Conway area on Wednesday.

Rice says he, Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, Horry County Council Chair Mark Lazarus, and Governor Henry McMaster have all talked about the project.

According to Rice, about 40 miles of roadway is needed to connect to I-95. “We’ve got to have 40 more miles to get to I-95 to get an outlet here,” he said in the meeting.

Rice wants the funding for the highway to come with disaster relief money after Hurricane Florence, saying in part “because we need a lifeline.”

Lazarus says $1.2 billon is needed to connect Horry County’s roads to I-95.

Horry County would fund about $300 million, according to Lazarus. The county would also ask the state for about 300 to 400 million dollars and the government for the rest of the funding.
