SPARTANBURG CO., SC (WSPA) – Authorities say a Clemson University student was killed after crashing into a stopped dump truck on northbound Interstate 85 in Greer.
The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday near Brockman-McClimon Road.
S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Joe Hovis said a dump truck was stopped in traffic and the driver was picking up debris when a pickup truck hit the back of the stopped dump truck.
Hovis said the pickup truck driver was trapped and had to be freed. He died at the scene of the crash.
The coroner identified the victim as William Loren Gallien, 22, of Clover S.C.
Gallien was a Clemson University student and was expected to graduate next week, Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said.
“Please keep the family of Mr. Gallien in your thoughts and prayers during their time of loss and grief,” Clevenger said.
Troopers say there are no charges in the wreck.
