LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – The body of a missing man was found in a pond Tuesday evening after family members say he checked into a Lumberton hotel.
Captain Terry Parker with the Lumberton Police Department says Curtis Woodrow Jackson, 27, was reported missing at 9:29 a.m. Tuesday morning by his family. Family members told police that Jackson had recently checked into the Spring Hill Suites, located at 5128 Fayetteville Road, where he changed his clothes to go swimming.
Jackson left the hotel in blue swimming trunks, Jordan tennis shoes, and a white and gray t-shirt. Family members said Jackson hadn’t been seen since changing clothes.
Around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, a homeowner in the 400 block of Barker Ten Mile Road was checking the property and found Jackson face down in a pond that runs along the east side of I-95 across from Robeson Community College, Capt. Parker states.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office and Lumberton Rescue and EMS handled the recovery of Jackson’s body, police confirm. An autopsy will be performed at the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh where an exact cause of death will be determined.
UPDATE:
An autopsy released by the state Medical Examiner stated the manner of death was classified as accidental.
The autopsy indicated no foul play was suspected in Jackson’s death.
