A missing infant and her mother turned out to be a hoax, according to Lt. Jessica Sadovnikov with the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office. This comes after an initial Facebook post by the sheriff’s office Thursday night, indicating the infant and mother were missing.
The infant and mother were reported missing on Thursday. Sadovnikov said a female known as April Morrison was believed to have been brought to North Carolina against her will and then taken out of North Carolina against her will.
It turned out that there is no April Morrison, according to WNCN. The photo of the baby had been taken from Facebook.
The sheriff’s office tells News13 that this was a lie. A false report was made for the purpose of obtaining money from the individuals who filed the report, deputies told News13.
News13 has learned that one person is in custody and WNCN reports a second arrest may be coming.
A press release is expected to be released Friday night. News13 will update this story as more information is released.
