Area schools make SC Dept. of Education's Comprehensive Support and Improvement Schools list

Several area schools made South Carolina Department of Education’s latest list of Comprehensive Support and Improvement Schools.

According to the SC Dept. of Education’s website, CSI schools are defined as:

“CSI schools are defined as Title I schools performing at or below the 5th percentile of all Title I schools in the state. CSI schools are identified every three years, in alignment with the state’s interim targets cycles, with the exception of this cycle which will extend from 2018-2020. Each school will receive technical assistance funds and be assigned a state level transformation coach.”

“Under the Every Student Succeeds Act, states must identify schools that meet certain criteria that classify them as schools in need of improvement,” the website also says. “The South Carolina Department of Education has developed a South Carolina School Improvement Designation document explaining the criteria, identifications, and support these schools receive.”

The following schools in our area made this list:

Darlington County School District: Thornwell Schools for the Arts
Dillon School District 4: Gordon Elementary School
Florence County School District 3: Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High School
Florence School District 1: Southside Middle School, Henry L. Sneed Middle School, and Wallace Gregg Elementary School
Horry County Schools: Palmetto Academy for Learning Motorsports
Bridgewater Academy Charter School in Myrtle Beach

The SCDOE will release their lists of Targeted Support and Improvement Schools and Priority Schools at a later date.
