5 deputies reprimanded, 1 fired at SC sheriff’s office

GREENVILLE Co., S.C. (WSPA) — The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office announced that five deputies have been reprimanded and a sixth deputy is off the job following an internal investigation.

Earlier this month, Greenville County Sheriff Johnny Mack Brown announced an internal investigation was launched to look into possible employee misconduct during previous administrations.

The sheriff’s office said in a news release issued Monday that the investigation was complete and five deputies had received written reprimands for conduct unbecoming an officer and a sixth deputy was fired.

Although five deputies violated the department’s policy, the agency said those violations were not criminal.

A sixth officer has been fired for untruthfulness and is under investigation by the S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED). The sheriff’s office said Jared Stroud was terminated for conduct unbecoming resulting from untruthfulness.

The sheriff’s office refused to comment on specifics citing SLED’s ongoing investigation.
