FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. (WNCN) – More than 30 dogs were seized from a Fuquay-Varina home Tuesday. Wake County Animal Control called it an overwhelmed caregiver and said she’s being cooperative.
“A lot of these cases they have big hearts and are trying to help a lot of dogs and get overwhelmed by the numbers,” said Animal Services Director Dr. Jennifer Federico.
Federico said someone reached out to her office, requesting a welfare check. Officers were at the home for more than five hours.
“She just needed some help from Animal Control today to place some of the animals, help her place some of the animals. And she’s really looking out for them by working with us today, which is really unusual in these cases,” Frederico said. She added that the pet owner was a woman in her 50s.
Since she’s been cooperative, animal control said charges aren’t expected. They hope it serves as a reminder to others.
“We see it several times a year, and you know we always tell people to reach out and let us know because sometimes, once you get overwhelmed, it’s really hard to ask for help,” Dr. Frederico said.
