LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) Three people have been shot in the Lumberton area, according to Capt. Terry Parker, with the Lumberton Police Department.

Just before 6:30 Wednesday evening officers were dispatched to 206 Main Street in Lumberton Capt. Parker said in a press release. When officers arrived they found three people that had been shot.

The victims have been identified as Dawson Bryant, 66, Nathaniel Douglas, 31, and his relative Jererd Douglas, 28. All three are from Lumberton and were taken to the hospital.

Jererd and Nathaniel Douglas are in stable condition, according to police. Their location is not being released for security reasons.

Investigators are interviewing witnesses and processing the crime scene. They were unable to speak with the Douglas brothers before they were flown to an area hospital. 

Investigators said the Douglas brothers were inside a GMC SUV during the shooting. The shooting started in a vacant lot across of from 208 Main Street.

As the shooting took place, the vehicle occupied by Jererd and Nathaniel Douglas traveled down Main Street and came to a rest in a yard between 208 Main Street and MLK Drive, according to police.

Mr. Bryant was struck by gunfire while inside 208 Main Street, police said.

The Robeson County District Attorney’s office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are on scene and assisting with the investigation. 

Lumberton Mayor Pro Tem John Cantey Jr. told News13 the shooting happened across the street from the McCormick Chapel AME Church, that he attends. I would like to apologize for the community for this type of incident taking place, Cantey said. It is a shame that our citizens don’t have the respect for our community. 

The Drug Enforcement Agency is assisting local police with the investigation. 

Cantey says he hopes there can be a resolution to this senseless crime tonight.
