SPARTANBURG Co., SC (WSPA) – Three people were arrested after deputies say they found an 83-year-old woman living in filth and feces in Spartanburg.
Deputies made the discovery Sunday while checking a condemned home where it was believed people were living.
Eddie Franklin Woody, 60; Ernest Paul Woody, 50, and Brandy Michelle Ramos, 31, all of 548 New Cut Road, are charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult and trespass after warning.
Ramos is also charged with possession of methamphetamine, according to jail records.
An incident report says deputies were overwhelmed by the smell of feces and urine as they stood outside the home.
Conditions inside were “beyond deplorable.”
Deputies found dog feces and urine everywhere. The kitchen floor was so covered in animal waste that an officer reportedly slipped as they walked across the floor, while the bathroom floor was partially falling in, according to the report.
Trash was piled in every room of the home.
While speaking with a suspect, an officer reportedly saw mice trying to jump out of a trash can and observed cockroaches “crawling on every wall of the home and bugs flying everywhere.”
An elderly woman was found sleeping on a wet foam pad that smelled of feces. Trash bags beside her bed were filled with soiled adult diapers and human feces was spilling out of the bags onto the floor.
Deputies say the victim had feces on her pants and had not appeared to have received a bath “in some time.” Officers also noticed cuts on her hands and were told by the victim that she was bitten by dogs.
The victim was taken to a hospital.
As of Monday, the suspects remained in the Spartanburg County jail.
