RED SPRINGS, NC AREA (WBTW) – The two teens killed after a crash involving a bicycle in Robeson County have been identified.

Sgt. McVicker, with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, identified the two teenagers killed as Donovan Oxendine, 14, and Aiden Christopher Manning Caldwell, 13. They were on a bicycle when it was hit by a car on Oxendine School Road on Thursday and were pronounced dead on Saturday.

Red Springs High School said on Facebook that Oxendine was a student.

“It pains me deeply that I have to announce the loss of one of our students, Donovan Oxendine, a freshmen, passed away Saturday from injuries he sustained on Thursday night,” Red Spring High School Principal Jamal A. Campbell said in the post. “Donovan’s love for baseball and infectious positive attitude will be truly missed by all at Red Springs High School.”

Students are encouraged to call the PSRC Hotline at 910-474-0401 to speak to one of the counselors. Schools are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but officials said they are “resolved in supporting our students so they can have the added emotional assistance they may need during this time.”

A graveside funeral for Donovan and Aiden will be held Friday, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Cherokee Holines Church on Oxendine School Rd. Those who plan to attend can remain in their cars as there will be speakers to project the sound of the service.

It is our hope when circumstances allow, we as a school will come together to celebrate the life of Donovan,” Campbell also said in the post. “We know that you join us in conveying the deepest sorrow and most sincere condolences of the entire Red Springs High School community to Donovan’s parents and family. We have offered them the full support of our school. Please keep the family, friends, and our school community in your prayers as we all process through this painful and unexpected loss of Donovan. It is during difficult times like this, we must support one another as we grieve and cherish the memories Donovan left with us all. We will provide to our school community updated information regarding funeral arrangements as they are made available.”
