PEMBROKE, NC (WBTW) – A 1-year-old child was injured from a dog bite in Robeson County.
Around 1 p.m. on Monday, deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 300 block of Ambay Rd. in Pembroke for a dog bite, a press release from the RCSO said. When deputies arrived, they found the child with injuries from a dog bite. The child was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
The dog reportedly belonged to a person who was visiting the father of the injured child, the release said. The dog was reportedly let out of the owner’s vehicle to stretch and the child started playing with the dog. The father and the dog owner were present when the dog started biting the child, and the child’s father was able to separate the dog and the child.
According to the release, the dog is a male Doberman Pinscher that was still intact and had updated vet records. The dog is in quarantine at the Robeson County Animal Shelter, and the owner reportedly said he had never experienced any aggressive behaviors with the dog.
The child’s injuries are non-life-threatening, according to Major Damien McLean, with the RCSO.
