MURRELLS INLET – St. James beat Gilbert 3-0 Tuesday to open the Class 3A boys soccer playoffs.
The Sharks got goals from Drew Volpe, Joey Simpson and Luke Williams. They advanced to play Hilton Head in the second round.
It extends what’s been a historic for the team. They reached No. 1 in the 3A state rankings for the first time this year. Quadarius Grate also became the first Shark to make the Carolinas Clash, which is the Shrine Bowl of high school soccer.
