MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Officials with the FAA say Spirit Airlines flight 348 made an emergency landing at Myrtle Beach International Airport Saturday night.

A spokesperson says the flight that was headed to Atlantic City, NJ from Tampa, FL landed safely at Myrtle Beach International Airport, at 8:18 p.m. after reporting an engine problem. The complete statement from Spirit Airlines can be read below:

Spirit Airlines flight 348 from Tampa to Atlantic City diverted to Myrtle Beach on Saturday night out of an abundance of caution, to check a possible mechanical problem. The plane landed safely and passengers were deplaned, as the aircraft was taken out of service. Spirit agents attempted to book as many customers as possible in Myrtle Beach area hotels. Unfortunately, there very few rooms available due to spring break. In these cases, we always work to rebook or accommodate unaccompanied minors, the elderly and families with children first, and prioritize hotel rooms based on special needs. We also placed as many customers as possible on another Atlantic City flight from Myrtle Beach that night. We are sorry for any inconvenience to our customers. After a full safety check of the plane, passengers were re-boarded on Sunday morning and arrived safely in Atlantic City a short time later.

The FAA will now investigate.
