FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) – The American Red Cross has over one hundred volunteers across the Pee Dee. These volunteers are helping people after Hurricane Matthew with shelter and food.
Members of the Southern Baptist Relief of South Carolina partnered with the Red Cross several years ago and have traveled as far as Mississippi to aid people displaced from Hurricane Katina.
This week the group is helping their community in Florence by cooking over eight thousand meals for all of the evacuees in the Red Cross shelters.
Tish Stallings a Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Volunteer said, “When you come help others you are blessed more than the other that you bless. We are fortunate that we don’t have floods. We don’t have water in our homes. We don’t have trees in our homes. We feel that being just without power, we can still help others.”
The Southern Baptist Disaster relief is a nonprofit organization that relies on donations.
