MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Anthony Gramaldi joined News13 NOW at 9 a.m. on Monday to talk about opioid addiction and how people in the Robeson County and surrounding area can get help with addiction treatment.

Gramaldi is the Director of Behavioral Health for Southeastern Health based in Lumberton. He explained that people with an addiction should reach out to a professional. While many people think they can overcome addiction on their own, addiction affects the brain in ways that only professionals can handle. Also, some people are predisposed to addiction, so there should be no shame in admitting to an addiction.

The first step in handling an addiction is reaching out to a doctor or other professional, possibly the doctor who may have prescribed pain medication in the past. After that, resources can be made available to help. The following list includes resources that Southeastern Health often coordinates with in the region. The first is a hotline that is widely available and can link people to multiple resources.
