FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – South Florence High School students are asked to leave their book bags at home for the first day of school after a threat was discovered.

Florence District One Public Information Officer Pam Little-McDaniel says staff members of South Florence High School learned of a written bomb threat toward the school planned on the first day, Monday, August 15.  The threat was written on the wall of a local convenience store.

School administration and the South Florence School Resource Officer were made aware of the threat by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

Little-McDaniel says the students’ safety is the district’s top concern, and school leaders take threats or rumors seriously. For this reason, students at South Florence High School are instructed to not bring book bags into the school on Monday, or until the investigation of the threat is complete.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the threat and is conducting a full search of the school and its grounds. Additional law enforcement presence will be dispatched to the school campus on Monday, confirms Little-McDaniel.

School will operate as planned for Monday, August 15, and will be in session the entire day.
