GREENVILLE (AP) – South Carolina starter Jack Wynkoop pitched six strong innings while Alex Destino and Elliott Caldwell had RBI hits in a three-run second to give the Gamecocks a 4-1 victory over Clemson on Saturday.

The Gamecocks (7-2) evened the rivalry series at a game apiece. They’ve won 14 of the past 18 games with Clemson and can take the regular season series for a fifth straight year by winning Sunday at South Carolina.

Wynkoop (2-1) gave up consecutive hits, including a run-scoring double to Tyler Krieger in the first inning. Then he shut down the Tigers (6-3) with just three hits over the next five innings. Taylor Widener pitched the last two inning for his third save of the season.

Clemson starter Zack Erwin (1-1) gave up seven hits and three earned runs for the loss.

The game was played at Fluor Field, the home of Boston’s Class A affiliate.
