South Carolina pitcher Crowe to miss rest of season

COLUMBIA (AP) – South Carolina sophomore right-hander Wil Crowe has a torn ligament in his right elbow and will miss the rest of the season.

The school said Tuesday that Crowe had an MRI which showed a torn ulnar collateral ligament. A date for Crowe’s surgery hasn’t been determined.

Crowe was a freshman sensation for the Gamecocks, going 8-3 with a 2.75 ERA in 2014. He struggled during the current season, registering a 3-4 mark with a 4.91 ERA. He’s got 59 strikeouts in 51 1-3 innings.

The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Crowe is from Sevierville, Tennessee. He was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Tennessee in 2013 and was drafted in the 31st round of that year’s Major League Baseball draft by Cleveland, but opted to play at South Carolina.
