MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (AP) – The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism plans to rebuild a nature center at Huntington Beach State Park that was destroyed by fire earlier this week.
The fire started by lightning early Wednesday destroyed the center and more than 20 animals, including jelly fish, alligators, turtles and snakes.
PRT spokeswoman Dawn Dawson-House tells The Sun News of Myrtle Beach that the agency plans to rebuild the nature center.
She said Thursday it’s too early to give details on plans for the new center but she said it would be rebuilt as quickly as possible.
The park is located on the Atlantic Ocean about 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach.
