CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley says her heart hurts at the news that at least 50 people have been killed in Florida in the worst mass shooting in American history.

“We don’t have to agree all the time but hate is never the answer,” she said on her Twitter account Sunday. “Pray for the injured & the families of the victims.”

U.S. Rep. and former Gov. Mark Sanford tweeted he is horrified by the shootings and his thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victims. And U.S. Sen. Tim Scott also tweeted that “my prayers are with the victims and their families.”

The shootings come almost a year after nine parishioners were killed at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. The anniversary of that shooting is Friday.
