MYRTLE BEACH (WBTW) – The South Carolina baseball team defeated Albany 10-1 in their season opener on Friday afternoon at Founders Park.

Sophomore right-hander Clarke Schmidt earned the win after allowing just one run on three hits in six innings of work with six strikeouts and four walks.

Dom Thompson Williams went 3-for-4 with his first career homer. His home run gave South Carolina a 6-1 lead.

Game two of the Albany series is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Founders Park.
