DUNCAN, SC – A 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old were hurt after a hit-and-run crash led to a brief police chase and ended with a crash into a tree in Spartanburg County, deputies say.

The chase ended on Berry Shoals Road by Tucapau Road in Duncan around 4:30 a.m.

Spartanburg County Sheriff’s deputies say the boy took mom’s vehicle without consent.

Before she knew it was missing, the son had backed into another vehicle before driving away, deputies say.

Deputies say they called the mom who told them she wanted to press charges on the boy.

When deputies spotted the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run crash and pulled the vehicle over.

When the deputy walked up to the car, the boy took off and a 30-second chase began, officials say.

They say it reached a speed of 75 to 80 mph.

The chase ended when the boy veered off the road and struck a tree, deputies say.

Deputies say none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The son is facing charges of Use Without Owner’s Consent, Malicious Injury to Personal Property and Failure to Stop for Blue Light and No S.C. Driver’s License.
