A morning walk to the bus stop ended with a trip to the hospital for a Savannah teenager.
A car ran over 14-year-old Marquad Smith as he was crossing the street.
It happened on Birchfield Drive and Montgomery Street at around 7:30 Friday morning near Hunter Army Airfield
Police say Marquad was actually pinned under the vehicle.
Chief Warrant Officer 4 David Longoria was on his way to work at the Airfield when he saw the accident.
He and several others helped to actually lift the car off of Smith.
“You never know when something like this will happen and it felt good the people to left of me and the people to the right of me, soldiers and civilians can always take care of each other,” Longoria says speaking to WSAV in the afternoon.
Smith was transported to Memorial with serious injuries. Traffic officials are currently investigating the crash.
Smith’s teen sister was also hit by the car but she was not seriously hurt.
