Community members competed in a softball tournament to raise money for local women struggling with addiction.

Ten teams competed in the Ashlyn Marie Cannon Memorial Softball Tournament, at Grand Park in the Market Common on Saturday. All proceeds of the tournament will go to Greater Love Home of South Carolina.

Greater Love Home is a transitional home for women recovering from addiction. The nonprofit has four homes for women throughout Horry County. The tournament was held in memory of Ashlyn Marie Cannon, who died of an overdose last year.

“She was a bright, beautiful girl, and she just didn’t get that chance to live life. We’re going to do our part to make sure this doesn’t happen to the next one,” said Shelley Gerald, Executive Director of Greater Love Home of SC.

This was the first Ashlyn Marie Cannon Memorial Softball Tournament. Organizers plan to continue it annually. For more information on Greater Love Home of SC, click here for their Facebook page.
