Just hours before brutal cold sweeps into the region, there were many reports Wednesday night of snow falling in some areas of the News13 viewing area.

The National Weather Service warned Wednesday night that some “slick spots” could develop from snow on roads — and told motorists to be careful.

The most reports were coming out of Robeson County, where a viewer sent photos showing the ground covered with snow at 9 pm. There was an early report around 8 pm of snow in Scotland County.

A News13 viewer also said snow fell in Patrick, SC in Chesterfield County. The snow was moving toward the southeast and could hit northern areas of the Grand Strand, the National Weather Service said.

News13 radar appears to show snow over more parts of SC, but it’s unclear if the snow is actually making all the way down to the ground in those areas.

The snow comes just hours before temperatures are forecast — along with brutal wind chill — to dip into single digits.

And, on Thursday night, the cold weather is expected to be a couple of degrees worse.

It will be windy and very cold Wednesday night with temperatures falling into the teens and lower 20s. By morning, wind chills will be in the single digits.

Wind chills will stay in the teens all day Thursday. It will be sunny, but highs will only be in the low to mid 30s. Another bitter cold night Thursday night, and it will struggle to warm above freezing again on Friday.

Thursday, mostly sunny, windy and cold. Highs 33 inland, 35 beaches.

Friday, partly sunny and cold. Highs 30-35.
