FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The sounds of drums, violins, the saxophone, and the electric guitar filled the FMU Performing Arts Center on Sunday afternoon as the Florence Symphony Orchestra rehearsed one last time before their big concert “Symphonic Rock” on Monday night.

“Symphonic Rock” features three local singers (Brandon Goff, Stephanie Fagan and Todd Norris) who will perform some of their original works and some familiar tunes as well. The FSO will provide the backup instrumentals. They’re mixing several genres of music, including pop, rock and jazz. Brandon Goff says the audience should prepare to see a show like never before.

“I think they’re in for a real treat. It will defy expectations, that’s to say the least,” Goff said. “We have every kind of genre, three different musical personalities. But it’s all blending perfectly with the orchestra which I think is a huge tribute to them and their skill sets and their ability to manipulate their tendencies toward what we do which is great.“

The conductor, Dr. Terry Roberts, said he hopes the eclectic music selection will draw in people of all ages, especially the younger crowd whose attendance to symphonies tends to be lower than older age groups.

“Normally, people think of symphonies as very straight-laced…and sit in their seats and don’t make a noise. This concert will be more like a rock concert. We encourage people to get into it, start clapping. if they want to dance, that’s fine too,” said Dr. Roberts.

This production has been in the works for months now with much collaboration between Dr. Roberts, FSO, and the vocalists.

“We all kind of brought pieces of ourselves to the table,” Goff explained. “Todd Norris brought in a great Leonard Cohen piece. Stephanie has these really folk style classic songs that she writes and I have a mixture of pop, very edgy rock. So it’s a really nice blend.“

“Symphonic Rock” kicks off at 7:30 PM on Monday, April 30 at the FMU Performing Arts Center. Tickets are still on sale. To buy, click here.
