SLED releases sketch of person of interest in SC deputy shooting

MONCKS CORNER, SC – Officers continue to search for the person who police say ambushed and shot a Berkeley County Deputy on Thursday night.

On Saturday, SLED released the sketch of a person of interest wanted for questioning by investigators.

SLED says the individual was described to be a black male in his 20’s, 5-feet-10 to 5-feet-11 inches tall, weighing 150 to 170 pounds. The person’s hair has a reddish tint toward the forehead.

Lieutenant Rogers remains hospitalized at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston.

The incident happened at the Exxon at Highway 52 and Cypress Gardens in Moncks Corner. The shooting happened in the Moncks Corner Police Department jurisdiction. Officials say Lt. Rogers was talking to a customer at the gas station when the suspect came up and shot him several times around 10:30 pm.
