MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A SLED report released Monday confirms that there will be no criminal charges filed against Myrtle Beach officers after a shooting that happened in April.
The report says that three officers responded after one Myrtle Beach officer reportedly found a car registered to a suicidal man. The three officers went into a wooded area where they found the suspect, Rodolfo Sanchez.
Accounts say Sanchez was talking on the phone and pointed his gun at the officers and the three fired, striking the subject three times.
Sanchez was taken to the hospital.
Evidence from the scene, ballistics, body cam footage and cell phone records were reviewed by SLED.
Based on evidence, SLED reported they found “no evidence of criminal behavior” on behalf the officers involved in the shooting.
“It is clear from your work that the suspect was intoxicated and was pointing and/ or presenting a handgun at the approaching officers as they ordered him to drop the weapon. The suspect was reported to be suicidal through dispatch and this was corroborated by a witness,” the closing letter from Scott Hixton, Chief Deputy Solicitor said.
The letter also mentioned that a shot fired by the suspect was heard as the officers approached the man’s location and a gunshot residue test confirmed that Sanchez had recently fired the weapon.
