CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – The sister of Demond Hannah, who was arrested by Conway Police for reportedly beating his two-month-old baby to death, says she does not believe her brother killed his child.

Malia Pringle, Hannah’s younger sister says she felt angry after hearing about her 21-year-old brother’s arrest.

“I really couldn’t believe it. I was mad, I was angry, I was sad because I just couldn’t believe it,” Pringle said.

Pringle says she does not think that her brother committed the crime.

“He was a very good person; a very hardworking man, and he always kept a job, and he would never do anything like that,” Pringle said.

Pringle never met Hannah’s two-month-old baby before he died, but says her brother was a ‘very good father’ to his other three-year-old son.

“He loves his kids too much,” Pringle said. “I don’t think that he’d want to be in jail for the rest of his life for the death of a baby. I don’t think he would ever do anything like that.”

According to Pringle, the infant was sick with pneumonia and bronchitis before he died.

Conway Police say Hannah caused multiple life-threatening injuries to the infant. Hannah was charged with homicide by child abuse, unlawful neglect of a child, abuse/to inflict great bodily injury upon a child and second-degree domestic violence. He was denied bond on all charges.

Hannah’s other son was placed under emergency protective custody with the Department of Social Services.
