Sidney Moorer’s retrial scheduled to begin in August

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW)- Sidney Moorer’s retrial for kidnapping charges in the Heather Elvis case will happen next month.

According to court documents filed Tuesday, jury selection in the re-trial case begins Monday, August 29 with the trial scheduled to start then upon qualification of the jury panel.

Friday, July 15, 800 Juror Summons and Questionnaires were mailed out. Those questionnaires have to be sent back by Monday, August 15.

Final hearing dates for all Pre-Trial Matters that need to be resolved will happen Friday August 19 at 9:00am in the Horry County Justice Center. Attorneys need to provide a witness list to the court Friday, August 26.

Documents filed by prosecutors last week asked that Stephen Schiraldi, the man who went on a date with Elvis the day she disappeared, be available to testify anywhere from August 29 to September 9.

Moorer is charged with kidnapping in the disappearance of Heather Elvis, who was last seen December of 2013.

Last month, Moorer’s trial on that charge ended with a mistrial.
