The suspect in a shooting that occurred late Friday night in Robeson County has turned himself in to authorities, according to a press release from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Purcell Leach, 56 of Rowland turned himself in to deputies around 9 a.m. Saturday.
The shooting happened just before 11:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Piedmont Drive in Rowland. When deputies arrived they found one person who had been shot. That victim, Camden Way, was taken to the hospital and at last check was listed in critical condition.
According to the press release, the shooting occurred after Way and Leach were involved in an argument. James Gowan told deputies that he was held at gunpoint and forced to drive Purcell away from the scene.
Leach is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Leach has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1984. He has served prison time in North Carolina for assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a law enforcement officer, assault on a female, forgery, uttering forged papers, receiving stolen goods, assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and sex offender on child premises charges.
