HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – A deadly house fire on Tuesday in Darlington County is being investigated as a homicide, according to Lt. Robert Kilgo with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office. The fire happened in the Hartsville area of Darlington County on Persimmons Road.

A press release from Lt. Kilgo said investigators believe the homicide was drug related.

Deputies were called to the house around noon Tuesday and Lt. Kilgo said one person was found dead in the home.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee announced the coroner’s office is still investigating the person’s manner of death and an autopsy has been scheduled. The identity of the person killed has not yet been released.

SLED has been called in to investigate the fire, a prior release says.
