CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – If you plan to drive in or near the City of Conway, you need to leave extra time to travel. Several roads are covered in water and dozens of barricades have been put up.

“We understand it is frustrating to have delays, but this is something we cannot help and we all have to work together,” said Conway Police Department Lieutenant Selena Small.

Small said it’s difficult to predict if more barricades will go up, but Conway Police, Horry County Police and the National Guard are working together to monitor flooding from the Waccamaw River.

She also asks that you do not walk or drive through barricades even if the water on the roadway has gone down.

“Even if you think the water’s gone down, we haven’t been able to inspect it yet to see if the roadway is damaged underneath,” said Small. “We can lose some of the road or the road could be washed away so we really ask that until we say that road is safe to travel on and move the barricades, don’t drive around the barricades.”

Small sent out this press release with more information on road closures:A reminder for everyone tomorrow that Hwy 701 N / N. Main Street is closed between Chicora and Millpond.Vehicles traveling Southbound on 701 will be detoured to take a right on Cultra Rd, then to turn left onto Oak St., then to Millpond Rd and take a left, and finally back to N.
