Service members return to Norfolk from overseas deployments

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Many local military families will get to see their loved ones return from deployment today.

More than 4,000 service members aboard the USS Kearsarge, USS Arlington and USS Oak Hill are pulling into port from seven-month overseas deployments.

The USS Kearsarge was a part of Operation Inherent Resolve, a coalition-based mission to drive ISIL out of Iraq and Syria. Aircraft launched from the Kearsarge as a part of airstrikes for the mission last November.

The Arlington and Oak Hill were a part of the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet of operations in the Middle East and Mediterranean Sea.

All three vessels deployed from Navel Station Norfolk last October.

The USS Kearsarge and USS Arlington pulled in to Naval Station Norfolk at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively. The USS Oak Hill arrived at JEB Little Creek-Fort Story at 9:30 a.m.
