MYRTLE BEACH, SC-    Spring begins in a few days and several businesses along the Grand Strand are starting to fill seasonal positions.

An SC Works report shows an increase in the number of seasonal jobs available in the Waccamaw Region. The report lists 897 open seasonal positions in February 2014 compared to 1,108 positions this year.

However, employers say the job market remains competitive. Vice President of Human Resources with Ocean Lakes Campground Ron Welchel told News 13 he’s looking to hire 250 seasonal employees and they’ve already received around 600 applications.

“We look for a great work record, a smile, wonderful customer service skills and a positive attitude,” said Welchel. “Those are the attributes we’re looking for in our seasonal teammates.”

Miller-Motte Technical College is partnering with Wal-mart to fill 600 seasonal positions in the area. According to Campus Director Chuck Gibbons, they’re offering application days to teach people interview skills and resume writing. Some tips for people applying include…

    -Be honest

    -Be prepared, know the position,

    – Tailor resume and cover letter to that position

    – Dress professional

    – Make sure social media accounts are appropriate

Often times employers will hire seasonal employees to fill full-time positions.

“Probably 95% of the year round teammates began their employment as a seasonal person,”stated Welchel.
