Search to resume Saturday for missing 16-year-old swimmer

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WBTW) – Crews continued their search for a missing 16-year-old boy in Pawleys Island Friday night, after several witnesses reported seeing a body offshore.

First Sgt. Ryan Williams with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources tells News13 Midway Fire Rescue is currently searching the water. DNR will resume an aerial search for the teen Saturday at 6:45 a.m.

The aircraft, according to Williams, will let search teams on the ground know if there is a need for jet skis or boats in the water.

A Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office marine vessel was also launched in the area, according to department spokeswoman Carrie Weaver. Weaver says the vessel and crews were unable to locate a body and will resume their search tomorrow.

According to authorities, Courtney Dorsey, 16, disappeared Sunday night while trying to rescue his younger brother in the water off Pawleys Island. Dorsey did not make it back to shore.

Authorities say Dorsey’s brother is OK.
