A South Carolina woman has been charged after she supplied a teen boy with alcohol before he was in a deadly DUI that killed a teen girl in mid-March, authorities say.
Amy C. Martinez, age 32, of Walhalla, SC was charged on Wednesday with with one count of giving alcohol to a minor and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
Autumn Jordan, age 18, died in a crash the same day that Martinez supplied alcohol to the 17-year-old driver, Jordan Tilson, who is facing 2 felony DUI charges in the wreck, the sheriff’s office said.
Tilson, also of Walhalla, was the driver in the single-vehicle crash around 8:30 pm March 14 on Highway 11 near Mountain Road and Critter Road in Westminster, deputies have said.
The vehicle, which contained 3 people, went down an embankment and crashed.
Autumn Jordan who was killed, was the passenger in the front seat of the car. Autumn was wearing her seatbelt, authorities said.
“The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division began an investigation into who furnished the alcohol to Jordan Scott Tilson,” according to Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw.
“As the investigation continued, it was determined by officers that Amy Martinez supplied the alcohol to Mr. Tilson on March 14th,” said Sheriff Crenshaw. “As a result of the investigation, warrants were obtained filing charges against Martinez.”
According to the warrants, Martinez gave liquor to a person under the age of 21 for the purpose of consumption and that the incident happened after Martinez legally purchased the alcohol at a store in Walhalla, deputies said.
Martinez is also accused of providing Tilson with intoxicating liquors which resulted in the minor becoming intoxicated and then operating a motor vehicle in a fatal collision, which led Tilson to be charged by the Highway Patrol with Felony DUI with Great Bodily Injury and with Felony DUI that resulted in Death, the sheriff’s office said.
On Thursday morning, Martinez was at the Detention Center on a $5,677.50 surety bond after her arrest Wednesday around 1:53 pm.In the crash, Tilson and another passenger in the back seat were both injured.
Tilson is facing charges of felony driving under the influence resulting in death and felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury.
