The owner of a Greenville County home day care where a 3-month-old girl died last year has agreed to a plea deal.
Multiple media outlets reported that Pamela Clark Wood of Taylors pleaded guilty to child neglect, violation of child day care licensing and obstruction of justice Thursday.
Wood was not charged in the death of Kellie Rynn Martin, who died from suffocation by bedding.
Circuit Judge Ned Miller sentenced Wood to 18 months of house arrest, five years of probation and 20 days of public service. Wood also must undergo random alcohol and drug testing.
Investigators said Wood was caring for 23 children in a Greenville home that was licensed for only six.
Deputies say on Feb. 21, 2014, they found 14 kids hiding in the basement of the Donington Drive home — along with Wood’s teenage daughter.
Outside, the basement, deputies say a toddler was left unattended and a loaded gun and alcohol were in reach of children inside the home.
The baby’s mother, Kathryn Martin, said Wood lied about the conditions at the day care.
