LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say a 37-year-old woman strangled her mother, then left her grandmother with dementia in a bathtub with crackers after she fled their home.

Arrest warrants released to The Associated Press said Daphaney Smith got in an argument with her mother several days ago, then used a rope to choke her mother to death in their Lexington County home.

Deputies say Smith then left her 82-year-old grandmother in an empty bathtub with crackers and a pie and left the home.

Authorities were called to the home Sunday, where 54-year-old Denise Hollingsworth was found dead

Sheriff’s office spokesman Capt. Adam Myrick says the grandmother is being treated at a hospital.

Smith is charged with murder and abusing a vulnerable adult. It wasn’t known if she had a lawyer.
