LYMAN, S.C – Lyman police say a shoplifting suspect dragged an officer before leading deputies on a chase into Cherokee County on Friday.
According to police, an officer opened a car door to detain a woman who matched the description of a suspect who shoplifted from the Dollar General on Charlotte Highway.
They say the suspect was later identified as Kristina Marcy, 31, of Simpsonville.
Police say that she reversed the car and hit the officer with the door then drove forward, throwing the officer to the ground.
A short time later, her car was spotted by Spartanburg County Deputies who chased her northbound on I-85.
The suspect was then chased to Exit 90 in Gaffney where she crashed and was taken into custody.
Officials released body camera video of the dragging incident.
The officer can be seen on video trying to get the woman to get out of the car.
However, the woman says that she is searching for her license, according to the video.
“I got three different purses,” she says, while the song “Hey, Soul Sister” by Train can be heard on the car radio.
“I just had it,” she says at one point, according to the video.
During all of this, the officer keeps asking the woman to “step out” of the vehicle.
“We’re gonna find it, just step out for me,” the officer says.
After the woman moves her seat completely forward, she appears to step on the gas pedal.
The officer yells “Don’t you do it!” and grabs onto the car as it takes off.
Officials say the driver reversed the car and hit the officer with the door then went forward.
“Stop the car!” he also yells while holding on.
After a few seconds, the officer falls and the video shows him tumbling.
“Ah!!!” he screams as people nearby ask if he is OK.
The Lyman officer suffered minor injuries including bumps, scrapes, and bruises.
Marcy was arrested and is being treated for minor injuries at a hospital.— WSPA contributed to this report
