SC unemployment dropped slightly in June

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Unemployment in South Carolina dropped slightly last month.

The Department of Employment and Workforce said Tuesday the jobless rate in June was 6.6 percent. That’s down from 6.8 percent in May.

Nationally, unemployment fell to a seven-year low of 5.3 percent in June.

The May increase had come even though more people were working in South Carolina.

Total employment increased again in June, with a total of more than 2,112,000 people working. More than 64,000 more people have found jobs since June 2014.

Allendale County had the highest unemployment rate in June, at 11.5 percent. Charleston County had the lowest rate at 5.5 percent.
