A teen from South Carolina who was accused of prostitution by an off duty Richmond County deputy says that deputy got it all wrong.

“She goes, you’re a prostitute,” said Precious LaCarter, who is from North Augusta, SC.

The 18-year-old says she was walking home from the Holiday Inn Express on Stevens Creek Road, where her mom got a room, and decided to go back to the hotel.

That’s when she says those words came out of an off duty Richmond County Deputy’s mouth.

“I laughed and I’m like, no. I’m not a prostitute.” said LaCarter, who says she works part time jobs at Applebee’s, Pier 1 and Walmart.

LaCarter says the deputy asked to see her ID and didn’t believe her.

“I’m originally from South Carolina, so I have a South Carolina ID. She goes, so you said you stay off of Washington Road, but you have a South Carolina ID, sounds like a prostitute to me,” said LaCarter, who was not charged with any crime.

Her mother took pictures of how Precious looked and was dressed on the night of the incident.

The teen’s mother has posted them on Facebook questioning the deputy’s move.

The sheriff’s office explains there are behaviors deputies look out for.

Lt. Allan Rollins said, “People who are just walking back and forth, up and down the street. Don’t seem to have a place to go./ and we see that throughout the community.”

Rollins says there are areas patrols have to watch for prostitution.

Off-duty deputies are encouraged to go the extra mile even if they aren’t in uniform.

“When you see something, then you stop and you address it and you call on duty cars or you take care of it yourself,” said Rollins.

LaCarter says she now thinks twice before walking anywhere.

“It really makes me scared to walk to be honest. I was gonna walk to CVS in my neighborhood, but I’m scared of it happening again,” said LaCarter.

LaCarter says she filed a complaint last Monday and was told the deputy’s supervisor would contact her, but that hasn’t happened yet.
