A South Carolina sheriff was alerted Thursday to a video shared on social media depicting a toddler performing a sexual act on an teenage girl.
A report from Orangeburg County Deputies says that a number of area law enforcement agencies received calls regarding the video, which had been posted on Facebook.
Orangeburg Deputies followed up on a tip from one concerned citizen that provided the identity of the teen and location of the incident. Authorities then placed the 14-year-old girl under arrest for Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor.
Sheriff’s Deputies said the video was recorded by the girl, and then sent to a male friend, who posted it on Facebook. Several people saw it and alerted authorities — with one of those callers providing key details.
In an incident report obtained by WLTX, the teen girl confessed to the acts and making the video saying that she did it while “she was drunk” after coming home from a party. According to the incident report, the teen girl said she didn’t remember doing it but that later she sent the video to her ex-boyfriend.
The teen girl was taken into custody, and is being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia. In addition, the Sheriff reported that two other children that live in the home were taken into the custody of SC DSS.
“This is a devastating case where an innocent child is being abused and taken advantage of by someone whom the child should have been able to trust,” the Sheriff’s report said.
“Parents, we’re calling upon you to police your children. Inspect their phones and social media accounts to see who they are talking to, and what they are sharing. If you are paying for the phone service, you need to be checking behind your kids.”
