MONCKS CORNER, SC — A celebration of life was held Sunday for a Berkeley County teenage girl who died Labor Day weekend.
Friends and family said their final farewell to 15-year-old Jasmine Lampkin during a service at Timberland High School.
Authorities say Jasmine died Monday after she lost control of her ATV with a passenger on the vehicle on Sunday.
Her single dad, Lamont Lampkin, is a part of the Berkeley County Rescue Squad and was called to respond to the ATV crash.
He said he was in the middle of planning Jasmine’s Sweet 16 birthday party when he received a call about a 4-wheeler crash and immediately called Jasmine’s cell phone.
“I had that gut feeling,” he said, fearing that his daughter was the victim — and not hearing her answer.
Jasmine’s dad was the first one on the scene, which was less than a mile from their home.
“There wasn’t too much I could do, but I was there with her,” Lamont Lampkin said.
Jasmine was airlifted to MUSC in Charleston. She died on Monday afternoon from head trauma, and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Six of her organs were donated.
“There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that is what she wanted,” Lamont Lampkin said. “I wanted to help others I don’t want no one to feel the pain that I am feeling.”
Jasmine’s heart went to a 15-year-old Pennsylvania girl — saving her life.
“She isn’t here with me physically but her heart is still beating in another child,” Lamont Lampkin said.
Jasmine’s father is collecting donations for the funeral.
“She was really a hero and she was mine,” Jasmine’s dad says.
