GREENVILLE, SC – Southside High School teacher Erickson Lamar Bynum has been accused of a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student at the school.

Investigators say it started in August 2015, but the school made them aware of the allegations on May 3.

The warrants say he performed oral sex on the teen in his classroom several times.

Investigators say Bynum had attempted to sexually assault two other students who were both 17.

They say this happened off campus. Once at his home and another at the victim’s home.

He was arrested Wednesday and is charged with two counts of Assault & Battery 2nd Degree and one count of Sexual Battery with a Student.

Bynum was released from the Greenville County Detention Center on his own recognizance.

He was placed on leave from the school on since May 3, when the allegation was made.

State law requires that teachers remain on paid leave status upon completion of the investigation.

Bynum was hired as a substitute in 2005.

He became a full-time English teacher in 2006 and was the Speech and Debate coach.

The school district say a background check through SLED and a multi-state database showed he had a clear record when he was hired.
