CLINTON, S.C. – A Piedmont Technical College teacher is now unemployed after bringing a handgun to Clinton High School.

On March 13th William Turner was at the high school teaching welding to students for dual college credits.

The principal told police Turner fell while sitting on a stool in the class and a gun fell on the floor with him.

Reports say students saw the gun and handed it back to him. A teacher overheard them talking about it and reported it.

Turner later went to police and admitted to accidentally carrying the gun into the school because he was running late and forgot to put it in his glove compartment.

A statement released by the college and District 56 Schools said the student reports indicated the weapon was shown on accident and in a non-threatening manner.

Turner was charged with carrying a weapon on school property.
