SC school PTA president stole $36,000 from account, deputies say

GREENVILLE, SC  – Slater-Marietta Elementary PTA president Melissa Dawn Crain has been arrested after investigators say she embezzled around $36,000 in three years.

She is charged with 2 counts of Breach of Trust $10,000 or more and one count of Breach of Trust > $2,000 < $10,000.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office says they were notified of the incident by school district officials. They say the money was taken from the PTA account.

The school’s principal confirms that she is the PTA president.

The judge set a personal recognizance bond at a hearing Wednesday.

We do not know the background or reason for the charges right now, but will update this story once we have those details.

Crain has also been the Softball Coordinator for the Northwest Little League Association for the past year, but the president of that group says Crain was never in charge of any of their finances.

“We love her to death. She’s been very helpful, one of the top volunteers we could ever have and I’ll stand behind her 100 percent on that issue as far as working with kids and any issue like that, you couldn’t ask for a better person,” says Kevin Jones, the President of Northwest Little League Association.
