CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – A North Charleston teenager is accused of wounding an 8-year-old boy during what authorities say was a dispute between two groups of “rival rappers.”

Police tell The Post and Courier the shooting occurred early Sunday.

Police say 16-year-old Demonte Wallace has been charged as an adult. He faces first-degree assault and battery charges.

Arrest affidavits say Wallace pointed a handgun and fired shots into a small crowd of people who were hurling insults at each other. Police say the unidentified 8-year-old, who was struck in his left arm, suffered a minor injury. He has been treated and released from a hospital.

Wallace is being held in the juvenile detention center. It is not clear if he has an attorney.
